Chateau les Conches
Built in the 19th century by a retired captain upon returning to his birth town Thiviers, the villagers lovingly refer to this pretty country house as Chateau des Conches, although it is really not very big. The house is stunningly set on a hillside facing away from Thiviers, so all rooms enjoy views over the rural valley while the restaurants, supermarkets and marketplace in the historic town of Thiviers are within 10 mins walking distance. The house is furbished with antique furniture, chandeliers and crowfeet tubs in the bathrooms. A billiard room/library is available. In front of the house facing the country road is a balustraded terrace and a fishpond being fed from an underground spring. On the hill behind the house is 6 acres of untamed forest, which older kids enjoy to explore. The private swimming pool is set on a plateau cutting in to the forest on the hillside just above the house with superb views over the valley, but well away from prying eyes.
