La Foret is 30 kms SW of Périgueux, an important cultural and business centre of the Dordogne region situated on the banks of the Isle River. It has a medieval old town around the cathedral where you can visit the weekly open market for local produce, enjoy a cruise on the river or a coffee in one of the many open-air cafés and restaurants. This area of the Périgord is renowned for its rich landscape of walnut plantations and oak forests where truffles (a black mushroom) are sniffed out by specially trained dogs or pigs! From the property there is easy access from the A89 motorway and is close to a variety of activities including canoeing, touring vineyards or visiting the many famous pre-historic sites. You can take a river cruise from Montpon (35 kms) in the flat-bottomed ‘gabarre’ boats or there is a river beach, canoeing/kayaking and river cruise-boat rental in Neuvic (4 kms). Golf 25kms in Chancelade. Shop, bar, restaurant and supermarket 4 kms in Neuvic-sur-Isle.
