REDUCED HOUSE RENTAL OF £495 FOR MAY & JUNE. 4 bedroom/3 bathroom restored farmhouse with stunning views and large gardens, situated in beautiful countryside on the Charente/Dordogne border. Walking distance from a pretty village with shops, cafe/bars and restaurants. River beaches and a swimming lake nearby and within easy reach of the Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cognac vineyards as well as chateaux, prehistoric caves and the other attractions of the Dordogne valley.

Situated in beautiful countryside on the Charente-Dordogne border, our holiday home is a 150 year old former farmhouse with stunning views that has been restored to provide modern facilities (including new wiring and new bathrooms) while retaining its original character.

The house has spacious rooms, including 4 bedrooms (king-sized bed in the master bedroom and a four-poster in the second bedrooom), 3 bathrooms (2 of them ensuites) and gardens of nearly an acre with views of the village and surrounding countryside.

Set amidst farmers' fields, the house is within walking distance of the pretty village of Saint Severin, which has cafes, restaurants and shops, and there are river beaches and a swimming lake nearby. Saint Severin is also within easy reach of the Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cognac vineyards as well as the chateaux, prehistoric caves and other attractions of the Dordogne valley.

Ground Floor

  • A large entrance hall leads to:
  • A French country kitchen, equipped with gas stove, fridge/freezer and microwave as well as a traditional buffet and a table that seats six. Doors lead from the kitchen to the garden for dining outside. Off the kitchen:
  • The living room contains a 3-4 seater sofa and 2 arm chairs, a television with access to UK domestic & international satellite TV channels and a multisystem DVD player. There is also:
  • A WC and utility room with a washing machine, iron & ironing board.

First Floor

  • The master double bedroom suite contains a king-sized bed, walk-in closet and a large en-suite bathroom with a bath, separate shower, washbasin and separate toilet.
  • The second bedroom has a four poster bed, a sofa that can convert to a bed for a young child, and an en-suite bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.

Second Floor

Another set of stairs leads to the (full-height) converted attic where there are two other bedrooms and the third bathroom.

  • The third bathroom contains a shower, washbasin and toilet.
  • The third bedroom has a double bed.
  • The fourth bedroom has a double bed.

A cot and an extra fold-up single bed can be made available if requested.

The grounds
The gardens, with views of the village and surrounding countryside, extend nearly an acre on two sides of the property. They include flower beds and fruit trees (guests can help themselves to the cherries, plums, figs, hazlenuts and apples according to the season) and a large area laid to lawn. Garden furniture and a gas BBQ are provided for eating and lounging around outside. Attached to the back of the property is a barn, and the only neighbours are a lovely French family who own the barn and a house at the far side of the barn.

The house and grounds have good iPhone/blackberry/smartphone coverage and Wifi is widely available at numerous places nearby.

Location
The house is situated in the countryside, just inside Charente close to the Dordogne border, midway between the departmental capitals of Perigueux and Angouleme and within walking distance (less than a kilometre) of the pretty village of Saint Severin, which has a range of shops, including a boulangerie, boucherie, epicerie, post office, tea rooms, cafe/bars serving food and an excellent restaurant.

It is an easy 50 minutes drive from Bergerac airport. Bordeaux, Brive and Limoges airports are about 90 minutes away. You can pick up a hire car at the airport (book in advance). The nearest channel ports are Caen and St Malo (about 5 hours drive).

Paris is around a 5 hour drive (alternatively you can take the TGV train from Paris to Angouleme, which takes 2 1/2 hours, and pick up a hire car at the station there).
