Location
La-Celle-Guenand is in the Southern Touraine, part of the Loire Valley. Nearby is the chateau de Le-Grand-Pressigny with the Museum of Prehistory, which makes it an interesting place to visit. Famous French philosopher, Rene Descartes was born in 1596 in a village a short distance away and his house is now a museum. The chateau d'Azay-le-Ferron sits at the gateway to Brenne Nature Parc and is beautifully restored and open to visitors. There is an open-field animal Zoo nearby.

Note : a car is essential to get around and can be hired from either Tours or Poitiers airports (book in advance).

Golf (2 courses) - an 18 hole golf course can be found in La-Roche-Posay just 20 mins south. The course designed by Jean Garaialde is aimed at players of all levels. The course is slightly undulating, has narrow fairways lined with pine and oak, around a pond of 3 acres. Also a 9 hole course towards Loches (20 mins).

Cycling - meandering across country lanes and along quiet tree lined roads, the cycling is gentle with only the occasional hill to get the blood flowing. Or Brenne Nature Park offers many off-road biking tracks.

Hiking - stroll Touraine Footpath No. 6 - this is a Tourist Board approved walking path which starts in Le-Grand-Pressigny and rambles for 8.3 kilometres. Or Brenne Nature Park offers 20 pathways from 3 to 24 kms long.

Horse Riding - the Bergauderie Stable, Le-Grand-Pressigny offers riding lessons, carriage driving, trick riding and more.

Fishing - a variety of landscapes from our local lake to streams and rivers make it possible to practice all types of fishing.

Casino - for those who enjoy a little roulette, black jack or poker... La-Roche-Posay is just 24km away.

Slightly further afield you can discover the wonderful Renaissance chateaux that line the river Loire. Many have been restored to their former regal glory and are open to the public. Famous castles in the area include chateau d'Amboise, Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Langeais, and Villandry. The furthest, chateau de Chambord is only a 2 hour drive, making it an easy day out.

You will taste with happiness the local specialties, like goat's cheese from Sainte-Maure, the potted pork called Rillettes, or the famous little black chicken, La Geline.

And not forgetting alongside its Vouvray, Chinon and Bourgueil wines, Touraine boasts nine appellations d'origine controllee (AOC), including Jasnieres and Montlouis.
