Dating back to 1268 when the first record of the Chateaux can be traced as being sold to Guy the Doyen of St Martin. The main West-facing wall is formed from the original chateaux ramparts and vestiges of these are present through out the grounds as well as entrances to caves and tunnels. The locals swear there is a tunnel linking La Roche d’Enchaille with the Church in the centre of Cussay some 5 km away. The Chateaux has had several roles during its long history, including operating as a mint striking coinage back in the 16th century and more recently as a “Relais de Poste”.There is also a large cave carved into the hillside above the farm, which was used by the Resistance during the 2nd World War. It now looks after the owner’s wine. The property has a large living area, with a fully equipped American style kitchen with dishwasher, range style gas cooker, sink and fridge There is a utility room which houses the central heating boiler and washing machine. There is also a large bathroom fitted with a Victorian style bath complete with shower attachment. These all lead off of a large landing area, which has a sofa/single bed and games console etc for the kids amongst us.The Hi Fi has a USB connection port so bring your own music. There is also a high speed ASDL Internet connection that can be accessed from any power point in the property. There is also a covered parking area with a games area attached this has Tennis table, dartboard etc. Outside there is a Boules court.
