Situated in the Charente region of France, yet close to the border of the Dordogne and Haute-Vienne, our beautifully converted barn offers all the modern facilities yet retains many character features.

Surrounded by gently rolling hills and sunflower fields, La Tourterie makes an ideal base for walking, mountain biking, horse riding, wine tasting, canoeing, fishing, golfing and site seeing. The barn is open plan with a spacious dining area and lounge with woodburner. The barn has large gardens front and back with large patio and private pool. La Tourterie is a tiny hamlet 15 minutes walk from the quiet village of Montemboeuf where you will find all the essentials you will need.

We are only 15 minutes drive from the pretty town of La Rochfoucauld with its imposing chateau and full range of shops, bars and restaurants. The nearby leisure lake at Lavaud offers scenic picnic sites, sandy beaches, swimming, sailing, mountain biking and has a fantastic adventure park for the children.

• The huge oak roof beams are all exposed throughout the bedrooms, which are located off an upstairs gallery which overlooks the feature window/door.

Cleaning etc

• Bedding and bed linen is included.
• Bath towels are charged at £3.50 extra per person, and pool towels charged at £3.50 extra per person.
• Property is cleaned on changeover day and should be left in a clean condition as found.

• Private oval pool 7.3 x 3.7m. Golf10km away in Rouzede there is a superb 18 hole golf course.

Coast

• Coast is 2 hours drive to La Rochelle.

Flights

• Ryanair fly from Liverpool, East midlands, Stansted and Southampton to Limoges which is 45 minutes drive. Ryanair also fly from Stansted to Angouleme airport about 30 mins away and Poitiers airport which is about 1.5 hours drive and Bergerac around 2 hours.
• BMI Baby fly from Manchester and East Midlands to Bordeaux which is 1 hour 45 minutes drive. Various other airlines also fly to Bordeaux. 
• There is a TGV from Paris to Angouleme which takes 2.5 hours.
• Angouleme is 40 minutes drive. The closest ferry port is St Malo which is 5-6 hours drive.
• Calais is about 8 hours drive.

Distances

Montemboeuf is 15 minutes walk. La Rochfoucald with its chateau and full range of bars and restaurants is 15 minutes drive. The town of Rochechouart is about 25 minutes drive and has an imposing chateau. Piegut has a famous Wednesday market and is 25 minutes drive into the Dordogne and the stunning town of Brantome is a further 25 minutes. Cognac is around 1 hour. Montbron is 15 minutes drive with shops, bars, restaurants and supermarkets. The lakes of Haute Charente are around 15 minutes drive, with swimming, beaches, sailing, adventure park and mountain bike routes. There will be a 30% deposit in £ sterling payable into our English bank account, with the remainder due 8 weeks before arrival along with a breakage cheque of £100 which will be refundable upon return after the property has been inspected.

Changeover

Saturday arrival after 4pm and Saturday departure before 10am. Out of season long term lets and long weekend lets are available and check in and out will be more flexible.
