Local Area Information
PONT ROYAL:
Pont Royal's origins date from the XIII century. Le Moulin de Vernegues, a 17th century manor house (now a beautiful hotel and restaurant) located within the Domaine once used to mill grain for the Archbishop of Arles. The centre of the village complex in Pont Royal is a short stroll from our villa and has been beautifully designed around a church, in the style of an old Provencal village, with lots of attention to detail - stone steps through arched walkways lead to small village squares with cafes flanked by fountains, pine trees and terracotta pots filled with flowers. The main square has restaurants, a tapas bar, souvenir shop, wine cave and delicatessen and during the summer months there are twice weekly markets selling local produce, fashion and crafts. There is a whole range of on-site activities, including children's clubs and play areas as well as sports and plenty of entertainment to keep the adults busy too! There is an additional charge for some of the activities which can be booked at the main reception area - during peak times advance booking is advised.
GOLF: The world renowned 18 hole championship, designed by Seve Ballesteros, is a Par 72 and extends over 6,300 metres. It is one of the most highly rated in the South of France - rated 16/20 in Peugeot Guide of Top 1000 Golf Courses in Europe! The prestigious Masters 13 event is hosted on the course in October with European Professionals and is open to the public. The excellent facilities include Pro Shop, Clubhouse, Bar and Restaurant which is open to non members. A new 6 hole golf course opened in June 2010 - including a practice range of 260 metres with 42 mats, 12 on an upper level. The new course includes one par 4 and extends over 930 metres. This new course is directly by our hamlet, less than 5 minutes walk away and has a small clubhouse serving cold drinks.
SKIING: Gap is 90 minute drive from the Domaine - Pra Loup is within a couple of hours drive.
MALLEMORT:
Mallemort is a pretty village and the closest to Pont Royal. The main square has a weekly market and there are shops, restaurants (particularly the Auberge du Vieux Village - booking recommended, it is busy throughout the year), bars and banks. Climb up the winding streets to the viewpoint at the top of the village and visit the large and very ornate graveyard which definitely boasts the best views.
THE LUBERON
Perched villages, fields of lavender, tiny out of the way restaurants and bars just waiting to be discovered, winding streets with pretty shops and art galleries - we are sure you will soon have your favourite.
CASSIS
This little seaside resort is snuggled at the foot of a very tall cliff - a wonderful place to stroll about with its picturesque fishing port lined with cafes and restaurants. Take a boat trip and explore the famous calanques that go all the way to Marseille.
AIX EN PROVENCE
Aix is a city of art - home to art schools and several universities attracting a youthful population which sparks the atmosphere. The Cours Mirabeau is the heart of Aix - a beautiful tree lined avenue - if you sit at only one French sidewalk cafe outside of Paris it should be here where the air is warm, the light sublime and the sidewalk alive.
AVIGNON
Cite des Papes - City of Popes There are seven entrances into the city through the superbly preserved walls. The Palace of the Popes was built in the 14th Century and overlooks a lively square - not too far away is the famous Pont d'Avignon. The annual theatre festival between 10th July and 5th August brings the streets of Avignon alive with strangely dressed actors. The two tier carousel in the main avenue is a hit with children - young and old!

COMMENTS FROM OUR GUESTS:
"Wow! Top house, top location, top pool - you don't need anything more!"
Harry Hardy, Stamford, England
"Our family had a really enjoyable stay here in July 2010. The property is exactly as described on the website but what does not come across is that this is clearly a much loved family home and it was lovely to be able to share this. My teenage boys particularly appreciated the extensive DVD collection! The adjacent pools were never busy and there were plenty of available sunloungers. The gardens and grounds around the property are beautifully kept. Comprehensive information was file really useful. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property to others."
Claire, Belfast, Northern Ireland
"The standard of equipment and furnishings makes it feel like a second home and not just a rental property, from the comfortable garden furniture through to the well presented and homely interior. We found this proprerty by accident online last year and rebooked immediately on our return for 2010!. The smaller swimming pool adjacent to the property although shared feels very private. Or if you prefer there is plenty of room to sit or lay in the garden. Having stayed in the main complex previously, we found the location of this property very convenient for all the bars and restaurants but much quieter and more relaxed."
Liz, Nicky & the girls, England
"Thanks so much for the use of your lovely home. Unfortunately too little time to enjoy it given all the incredible sights to see in the region. You have chosen a beautiful Domaine for your second home."
The Towers Family, Canada
"We had a great time - it really is a lovely house and the place was so quiet ... my son adored the Duplo ... his best friend from school was staying elsewhere on the Domaine so they came round a few times and all the children from age 9 to 4 were well amused! Thanks again for all your efforts, we really realised how well you look after your guests when our friends moaned that they had no information in their house at all. Well done! It really helped."
The Macdonald Family, Scotland
"An indulgent stay in what we feel is the nicest and most beautiful part of Provence. Will always remember the Luberon mountains."
Kerry and Rick, Perth, Australia
