Maison Saint-Georges
This grand mediaeval house has oodles of character and charm. It has recently been gently restored and furnished by a sympathetic English owner who is well known in the community. It is regarded as being one of the loveliest historic houses in the village. Old staircases abound and there is an abundance of ancient exposed stone walls on the three floors. On the top floor is a bathroom (with front loading washing machine); one double room and a single room. However this excellent bed is able to be moved to create a family room in one of the others. There is a charming sitting area facing West with a sofa as well as a small terrace under the eves affording a beautiful tranquil vista. This is an excellent drying area too. On the middle floor there is a 17th century plastered room with a King size brass bed and also the evocative kitchen. The kitchen is filled with solid oak French country furniture and has an excellent array of cooking utensils and appliances. The oval table can be extended to seat 8 or 10. There are two dinner services and a good number of glasses. On the ground floor is the Reception Hall. From this leads the main staircase to all the upper floors and a mezzanine floor which has a large twin bedded room with en suite facilities. There is also a separate toilet leading off the staircase. There is considerable cellar space off the street for storing empty luggage and skis/bicycles etc. There are two large open fire places - one in the main Reception Hall and another in the Kitchen. Antiques and beautiful carpets create a perfect ambiance for those discerning people in search of tranquillity and comfort. There is a wonderful kitchen and dining area. For non-cooking visitors, the nearest excellent restaurant serving simple and excellent country cooking is 10 seconds away across the road! Also around the corner next to the Abbey church is an award winning restaurant. The village has excellent parking and very little traffic. Alas, the house is not really suited for very young children because of the staircases and steps. And it is a house for non-smokers at all times. Really tall people should mind their heads on some of the exposed beams. Mediaeval people were not so tall as those today. Anyway, two doors away is the Pharmacie should you forget! There is central heating in all rooms except the Entrance Hall where there is a log fire. The house is very cosy in the winter and quite cool in the summer. A supplement must be agreed with the owners for lettings when heating is required.
